Issue 21 of “Pitch by Magazine” explores “History” across the Philippines, Croatia, Gunsan, and beyond — tracing the time, memory, and culture woven into each destination, from ancient seeds to city stationery shops.
In Issue 21 of “Pitch by Magazine,” we explore the keyword “History,” listening closely to the time and stories each destination holds within it.
We travel through Manila, the Philippine capital that grew from a Spanish colonial fortress into a sprawling global metropolis, and Cebu, a true turning point in the nation’s history, to see how the Philippines’ heritage continues to shape its culture today.
From Dubrovnik to Kvarner, Croatia, our journey along the blue Adriatic coast is also a journey back through Croatia’s past.
We uncover traces left behind by different eras and civilizations, moving freely between past and present as they coexist within the landscape.
In Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do — a city built up by outsiders who settled and made it their own — we meet the people and spaces bringing new energy to the old downtown, and we suggest a journey through wellness and desserts as ways of experiencing the long-standing ways of life across the ASEAN region.
Photographer Choi Suyeon’s work documenting portraits of native seeds captures the time embedded in our land within each small seed, while photographer Kim Joowon’s record of the four seasons in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do, captures the scenery of our land.
We also visit 9 stationery spaces in Berlin, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan, and introduce 8 urban places for discovering personal taste and inspiration — moments where a city’s memories meet today’s sensibilities to create new stories.
Through illustrations, we take a look at Japanese canned foods, offering a glimpse into each region’s distinct food culture, and novelist Baek Minseok shares a short story revealing a personal and gripping incident that unfolds in Italy.
